The Forest Within Me

This young Douglas fir grows in Manning Park, in a little hollow created at the bottom of a hill with a little stream nearby. This created a microclimate where a profusion of lichens covered its bark. The pattern of growth of these lichens mimicked the forest surrounding this tree - hence the title.  The drawing and my process for creating these bark portraits were featured in the March 2026 edition of the Color Pencil Magic Magazine.
